Hey everyone, hope all’s brewing well with you.  We have a lot of info on several upcoming events, so please read through.  We hope to see you out there with us!

CLUB MEETING @ BARREL DOWN: 525 W 7TH STREET, DTLA – AUGUST 1ST, 2PM – 6PM – BELGIAN SAISONS

Barely 2 months open, Barrel Down has already proven to be a great place to find awesome craft beer in Downtown LA.  40 handles showcase 20 core and 20 rotating taps of the best beers that Cali and the rest of the US have to offer.  We may be meeting in their private upstairs room, construction permitting (it’s that new!).  Saison is the style of the month, so bring your examples (and any others), but please limit to 1 or 2 bottles, as we should certainly support this new and gracious addition to the DTLA craft beer scene.  Bonus points: this date is also the AHA’s National Mead Day, so if you have some that’s ready to serve, by all means, bring it along.

Hey ladies! Yeastside members Christina & Claire have graciously offered up their home for us to brew the first ever “Ladies of Yeastside Holiday Brew”.  The holiday beer recipe, ingredients, and all equipment needed for this epic brew day will also be provided by our hostesses.  To sign up, email Gayle, letting her know you plan to attend and what potluck dish you’ll be bringing to share.  Sorry – no guys allowed!  However, our Holiday Beer will be poured at the Yeastside Holiday Party for ALL to enjoy!  Speaking of that…

HOLIDAY PARTY @ OLD OAK CELLARS: 2620 E FOOTHILL BLVD STE D, PASADENA – SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5TH, 6PM

We’re planning a Holiday Party to end this year with a bang!  Member Dave Lustig has graciously agreed to host us for this bash.  Details are in the works, and we will certainly need everyone’s help to make it great, but for now, plan on brewing beers to be served at the party – we’ll need lots of kegs and bottles.  We’re several months out, so high-gravity beers can have time to condition for the party.  Also, this will be a great opportunity to impress with your favorite holiday potluck dishes, so keep those in mind.  We might have part of the dinner catered, or if any brave and talented club chefs want to tackle a main dish, that would be awesome too.  If you have ideas for the party or would just like to be involved in the planning and execution (volunteers RULE), please email Gayle and let her know soon.  Thank you – the party will be as awesome as we make it!

SUPPORT YOUR CLUB: BUY YEASTSIDE MERCH!

In the same way paying dues does, funds from YS merch go right back into directly supporting the club and its activities.  We currently have many sizes of both black and green Yeastside t-shirts and navy blue sweatshirts available, which are great conversation starters and help us spread the word about our club.  We also have canvas totes and a limited number of Yeastside pint and mini-taster glasses.  We’d like to put together another run of beer glass lanyards, so these funds will go toward that project as well.  See Gayle at the next meeting for more info and to make a purchase.

SUPPORT YOUR CLUB: BECOME A BOARD MEMBER!

Now that we’ve entered the second half of 2015, we‘ve begun thinking about who among you will step up, accept the challenge, and help the Yeastside Brewers to continue growing and improving.  Being a board member isn’t a great burden, and becoming more involved in the decisions and actions that shape our club can be very rewarding.  As our membership increases, so do the opportunities to get into it and get involved.  Please don‘t hesitate to ask a current board member for more information.  Thanks!

EXTRA CREDIT: BLUE PALMS’ 7TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: SUNDAY, AUGUST 9TH, NOON TO 5PM

This is a non-YS sanctioned event; nevertheless, it’s one not to miss.  There will be 90+ different beers on tap, many of them rare or one-offs brewed especially for this event.  Tickets are on sale now.  Click their FB event page for complete info and while you’re there, take a look at how the beer list is developing – and this is just the beginning.

AND LAST, BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST…

We had 2 new members join our noble ranks at the last monthly meeting.  They are Sean Haley and Thomas Galvin.  Make ‘em feel at home, will ya?  I know you will.

That’s all we’ve got for this month, fellow homebrewers.  See you on the 1st!

BREW ON!
