Yeastside Brewers,

Happy Cinco De Mayo! Our Fearless President Dave is off to South Africa, and asked me to let you know about the upcoming meeting.

This Saturday, May 10th, we will be at The Glendale Tap. Please limit the Homebrew you bring to 1 bottle, so we can partake in the 50 plus beers available. After a great time here for our February meeting, we just couldn’t wait to return! So get ready for lots of free pool playing, peanuts, and excellent beers.

Things to bring to Saturday’s Meeting:

  • Tasting Glass (YSB glasses are for sale)
  • Homebrew
  • Snacks
  • Money or Credit Card for shirts, glassware, and commercial beers

Brewer of the Year Update:

Results have recently come in for Mayfaire, so 4 of the Brewer of The Year “Major” comps are in the books. Here are the standings thus far, with Ward taking a strong lead after a pair of 1st place ribbons and a 3rd place in Mayfaire.

Ward G. Walkup IV – 14 points
Jeff Koehler – 9 points
Matt & Sarah Luker, and Louie & Gayle Michel – 2 points
Sean Morris – 2 points
Tyler Jaynes – 1 point
Tyler Thurman – 1 point

It is great to see some more names on this list, everyone keep brewing and entering! Here is a tip for those looking to get a ribbon: Enter the categories which have less entries, such as lagers, Scottish, and British styles. If your technique and recipe are good, you have a better chance going up against 9 other entries rather than 35! Also, ask Ward what he is entering and avoid those categories completely.

We have a short break in the schedule, now that CA State Fair registration is closed. Good luck to those who have entered. On the horizon:
– SoCal Regional due July
– LA County Fair due July
– Pacific Brewers Cup due late August
– CA State Homebrew comp due October.
These dates are approximate based on previous years. A 1st place ribbon earns 3 points, 2nd place is points, and 3rd place is 1 point. Best of Show gets an additional 3 points, and runner up BOS is 2 more points, 2nd runner up is 1 point. A reminder, enter those beers under Yeastside Brewers!
