When: Sunday May 8th, Noon
Where: Club member Skipp Shelly’s house in Echo Park
1112 West Edgeware Road
Los Angeles, CA 90026
Join us at Skipp’s house as he gives us a demo of home cheese making! He will be sharing some cheese from previous batches, and teaching us about the process. The meeting is being moved from Saturday to Sunday, since May 7th is the judging for Mayfaire (see below for more info). Yes, we know it is Mother’s Day, and sorry if that doesn’t work for some people. But your Mom probably loves cheese, right? Why not make her some as a belated Mother’s Day gift, or just for being wonderful.
Our style of the month is Specialty, Experimental, Historical beers (category 23). These are the “weird beers” so bring out the freaks! If you have any homebrews to share in these styles, please bring them. Of course, any style of homebrew is encouraged. If you have a favorite commercial Specialty/Experimental/Historical, bring it along too.
Around 1PM (or whenever Skipp has a break in the cheese action) we’ll have meeting notes about upcoming events.
Competition Info:
The first local judging/stewarding opportunity is rapidly approaching. The Maltose Falcons’ Mayfaire competition is on May 7th at Saint Martin’s Church in Canoga Park. This is a great opportunity to get some competition experience and more help is always needed. Full information and how to register as a judge or steward can be found on the Maltose Falcons’ website. We would like to make a strong club showing with as many members that can make the trip!
As for entering beers for competitions, the next individual competitions are the Los Angeles County Fair and Southern California Regional Homebrew Competition, both of which have entry due dates in July. The next club only competition is in August for meads so we will hold a taste-off during the August meeting. More details will be posted as the dates get closer.
Future meeting plans:
June 5th (Sunday) – Tony’s Darts Away. Monthly style is IPA (category 14). If you haven’t been to TDA, and you love IPA’s, then it’s about time! Half of the taplist are California brewed IPAs.
July 9th (2nd Saturday to avoid 4th of July conflicts) – location TBD. Working on plans for a club brew, where members will be invited to bring their brewing setup and get everyone brewing together.
