When: Saturday April 20th, 6:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. (EARLY AND ALL DAY)
Where: Ohana Brewing, 1756 E 23rd Street, Vernon, California, 90058
To all the Yeastsiders:
The Long Beach Homebrew Club is hosting a big brew day on Saturday April 20th at Ohana Brewery, and they would love to have some Yeastside Brewers at the event. They will be brewing a basic pale ale in hopes that people would experiment with the base beer and share it at SCHF.
Price: $25. The fee gives you access to 5 gallons of the wort. The price you’re paying is about the same or less than brewing a batch of beer at home. It’s a great deal.
Spots Available: There are 10 spots available as of today. There will be a waiting list for those who sign up late. Sign-up will be on a first come, first serve basis.
Where to Pay & Sign Up: Pay at Steinfillers, 4160 N Norse Way, Long Beach, CA 90808, (562) 425-0588. They will take down your information.
Schedule of Events: While it is not mandatory that you arrive at 6:00 A.M., we recommend that you should. You don’t necessarily need to be there for the entire brew session, BUT you need to be there at the END to pick up your wort. If you have never seen or brewed commercially, I suggest you attend from the beginning.
Parking: Street parking. I suggest you carpool and find a designated driver.
Food: Ohana will be providing breakfast. For lunch, the plan is to order two 6 foot long subs from subway and get sides from Costco. You are welcome to bring a side dish but do not have to.
Brewing Recipe: Again, they will be brewing a basic pale beer recipe which will allow you to experiment. Recipe will be 90% American Pilsner, 5% Honey Malt, 5% Wheat Malt with Magnum and Styrian Goldings hops.
Yeast: You can use the Ohana house yeast if you like. I believe the house yeast is an American strain.
Container for Taking Wort Home: NO GLASS. Glass carboys are NOT allowed because they are too much of a safety concern if they break. Bring any container you like to take the wort home as long as it is not glass.
Comfort: BRING A CHAIR! It is a commercial brewery, not a brew pub.
Please RSVP with Steinfillers. If you have other questions, please, do not hesitate to ask me.
Cheers and Thanks for reading!
