OCTOBER 2015 BREWSLETTER

CLUB MEETING @ HIGHLAND PARK BREWERY / HERMOSILLO: 5127 YORK BLVD, HIGHLAND PARK – OCTOBER 3RD, 2PM – 6PM
PUMPKIN, VEGETABLE, SPICE BEERS

Bob Kunz and Co. established Highland Park Brewery inside the previously-notorious Hermosillo club just over a year ago, and in that short time, they’ve managed to make a name for themselves in their local community and in the LA craft beer scene. Specializing in funky and wild beers with unusual ingredients, they also brew a selection of more conventional beers. Pumpkin, vegetable, and spice ales are the styles of the month, so bring your examples and any other homebrew you’d like to share and get feedback on, but please limit to 1 or 2 bottles – the Hermosillo has 15-or-so taps of mostly HBP beers and a few rotating guest taps for us to enjoy. Also – for those of you who participated in the recent group brew at Angry Horse – please bring a bottle or two so that we can compare and contrast what the different yeasts did. Parking available in the adjacent medium-sized lot. See you there!

LADIES OF YEASTSIDE HOLIDAY BREW & POT LUCK @ CHRISTINA & CLAIRE’S: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10TH, 9:30AM

Hey ladies, this is the last call to attend the October 10th Ladies Brew Day & Potluck hosted by Christina & Claire. At last count, we had 9 “Betties” signed up. Also, ladies, if you haven’t been receiving the emails regarding the brew day, make sure you email Gayle no later than September 30th to get in on the fun.

LA ARTS DISTRICT PUB CRAWL: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17TH, 12PM – 5PM

The craft beer scene in LA’s Arts District is currently experiencing explosive growth. There are new breweries and great beer bars opening all the time, not to mention established favorites. So let’s crawl! Join us for some or all of this informal gathering where we’ll conduct important research to further our knowledge and understanding of the brewer’s craft. We’ll be visiting Mumford Brewing, Far Bar, Wolf and Crane, 82 (bring quarters!), and Escondite. Supremely Metro-friendly, consider taking the train and leaving your car behind – Far Bar even offers a Metro discount. Safety first!

HOLIDAY PARTY @ OLD OAK CELLARS: 2620 E FOOTHILL BLVD STE D, PASADENA – SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5TH, 6PM

Thanks to members who’ve already signed up to volunteer their time, culinary creations, and / or beer. We’re hoping to hear from more of you soon – the party will be upon us before we know it. One area where we could use help is in the planning. Please email Gayle soon and let her know how you’ll contribute – whether it be beer, food, or planning and execution. Thanks!

UPCOMING COMPETITIONS:

– The California State Homebrew Competition’s entry deadline is October 17th, judging is November 8th.
– The SoCal Regional Homebrew Competition’s entry window is August 10th through October 11th and will be judged on October 24th at Hangar 24’s warehouse in Redlands.

UPCOMING MEETINGS:

– November’s meeting will be at Craft Beer Cellars in Eagle Rock. Style of the month is Any Strong Ale.
– December’s meeting…is the Holiday Party! Style of the month is….what else? Holiday Ales!
