I hope you are all doing well! I wanted to send an email with some events that are happening in the next few weeks. This week is our Hollywood Pub Crawl, organized by Sally. Next week, entries are due for the Pacific Brewers Cup, and in 3 weeks we will be participating in the Ventura Beer Experience thanks to Sarah and Matt Luker. It is an exciting few weeks and there is no better way to support the club than by attending one of these events or entering your awesome beers in a competition. We had a great showing in the LA County Fair!
Hollywood Pub Crawl
Where: Lucky Devils to Stout Burgers and Beer
When: Sunday August 17th,1pm – 6pm or until late
Why: You want to check some awesome bars with some even more awesome people!
We have about 16 RSVP’s for the Pub Crawl so far. The more the merrier!! If you plan on attending, shoot me an email to let me know. Here is the itinerary and I can’t wait to check out these great craft beer bars.
1pm – Lucky Devils – 6613 Hollywood Blvd
2pm – Ball and Chain – 1642 Cahuenga Blvd
3pm – Berlin Currywurst – 1620 Cahuenga Blvd
4pm – District 13 – 1556 Cahuenga Blvd
5pm – Stout Burgers and Beer – 1544 Cahuenga Blvd
All the locations are very close together and we will spend an hour or so at each place. They all serve food so you can fuel up during the crawl. There is great transportation to this area and I encourage you to use public transportation, get dropped off and picked up, or book an Uber for the crawl! Please be responsible!
Where: Arroyo Verde Park, Ventura Ca
When: Saturday, Sept 6th, 1pm – 4pm
In 3 weeks, we will be participating in a great event in Ventura. It is a collection of local breweries with the goal to raise money for under privileged kids. We will have 8 members serving our great beers. I have linked the Facebook Page above if you want to get more info. The flyer has most of the info. We would love to get some member support so if your are free that weekend, tickets are on sale! Thanks again to Matt and Sarah for getting us involved in this event.
Los Angeles County Fair Homebrew Competition
We had a great showing in the LA County Fair Homebrew Competition! Congratulations to all the winners and keep entering those beers under the Yeastside Brewers. We are wrapping up the competition season but it is not too late to enter for the Pacific Brewers Cup. Entries are dueAugust 22nd so register and drop off those beers next week! Here are the results from the LA Fair.
In Cat. 6 Scottish-style Ale, Jerl Leutz & Michelle Fabale placed 3rd with their Scottish Export 80 “Grime Sinister.”
In Cat. 7 IPA (tough category!), Jorge Pineda placed 2nd with his American IPA “Pinedabrau Double IPA.”
In Cat. 8 Euro-style Ale, John Montes De Oca & Vicki Tisdale took 1st with their Kolsch.
In Cat. 13 Double IPA and Barleywine, Sarah & Matthew Luker received Honorable Mention for their Double IPA “Transplants IPA.”
In Cat. 18 German-style Wheat, Tyler Jaynes took 1st with his Weizenbock.
In Cat. 21 Belgian-style Specialty, John Montes De Oca & Vicki Tisdale took 1st again with their Witbier.
In Cat. 25 Specialty-Experimental/Historical, Sarah & Matthew Luker placed 3rd with their Experimental/Specialty “Navel Vanilla IPA.”
In Cat. 26 Smoke/Wood Aged, Sarah & Matthew Luker placed 2nd with their Wood Aged “Port Porter.”
Also in Cat. 26 Smoke/Wood Aged, Ward G. Walkup IV placed 3rd with his Wood Aged “Rum Barrel Aged Kit.”
And in Cat. 27 Mead, Sean Morris placed 2nd with his Metheglin “Vanilla Bean & Cinnamon Mead.”
Again, congrats to everyone who won! We will have an updated Brewer of the Year Points tally in the next email.
Just a reminder, September’s Meeting will be on Sept 13th because we will be attending the Ventura Beer Experience. It will be at Progress Brewing in South El Monte.
